about webs

Webs is a production about healing from sexualized violence that weaves together the personal stories of cast and contributors through the medium of circus.

Circus is fundamentally an art form where performers defy the expectations of what we believe is physically possible for the body. Because of this, we saw circus as the perfect medium to explore a radical, seemly impossible desire for future free from sexualized violence.

Our cast is a group of performers who feel passionate that telling our stories through art and creating a safe space through Webs has great potential to heal and transform our narrative as a society around sexual violence. The creation of Webs has been healing in many ways for each of the performers and we believe that it is important to engage with art that reflects our experiences, especially the experiences that are difficult to discuss and hold space for.

Our hope is that our audience members will see part of themselves and their experience in our show and feel held, seen, and hopeful. This cultural moment of heightened awareness of sexual violence is also an opportunity for allies to ask deeper questions like, “Where are we perpetuating and/or contributing to rape culture? Where we can spark tender transformation within and around us to end rape culture and support victims in validating their experiences, and remembering their belonging and wholeness? Can we listen deeply, be accountable, change our own behaviors, and dismantle harmful systems that perpetuate violence in our cultures?”
